So a nice electric one to plug in was a novelty for us in 2014. Our steamers have become something we use many times each week!
The big take-aways for health is that a veggie steamer cooks without any fats, and unlike boiling, the veggies don’t get water-logged so they taste and look better. We think that people must give them as wedding or Christmas presents, then they get donated because people don’t know what to do with them. We buy them repeatedly as we’ve found they’re fun to give away when people come for dinner and comment on how tasty our veggies are and I talk about how awesome they are.
Truthfully, nothing could be simpler — or healthier! You just fill the lower chamber with water, put your food in the steamer basket, put on the lid, plug it in and set the timer! That’s it!
If you want to add even more flavor than is naturally there, you can add seasoning into the water (herbs, etc.) or put your veggies in a plastic bag with the seasonings and let ’em be infused with flavor!
