Soda … Oh, Soda! And Why It’s Such Bad News! Especially Now!

Soda seems to be a major part of life for many people, including most of our family and friends. The pandemic is a time of tremendous stress! Soda will NOT help our health … or our stress levels! But drinking water will!

Bob and I are not ones to rock the boat or dictate what we think others should eat or drink.  However, our remarkable excellent health (we’re turning 66 and 69) often comes up in conversation, and at that time we can share our healthy habits, including that we don’t drink soda.

If the conversation heads into the tricky “I can’t give up my soda” direction,  we add this humorous and true story from a good friend — who found that COKE was the best product around for …. dissolving tile adhesive!

Our good friend Bill in Virginia does a lot of home remodeling and was struggling to remove the tile floor from a very old bathroom.  A Coke that he’d been sipping on while slogging away at the seemingly permanent tiles spilled all over the floor, seeping into the crevices.  The old glue started bubbling and loosening.  He gave up on the expensive removal stuff from Home Depot, and went to the grocery store for several liters and poured it on the floor.  VOILA!

That’s pretty entertaining!  With that in mind, it’s not hard to imagine … what it’s doing to our insides.

But just how bad is excessive soda consumption for your body?

The unanimous answer from experts: “Very.” And regular soda isn’t the only culprit. Even diet drinks, which utilize artificial sweeteners in place of sugar could still negatively impact an individual’s health.

High rates of soda consumption have been linked with numerous health problems, including weight gain, poor dental health, diabetes and cardiovascular disease—which can ultimately lead to heart attacks, stroke and premature death.

I’ve done some research to provide little science and easy to understand science behind it all that may lead you to more information that may be encouraging and helpful for you!  Problems related to the high-sugar content in soda is well documented, but continuing science confirms that DIET SODA is as harmful, or perhaps more so.
